Women, Infants, and Children - WIC:

WIC is a federal food supplement program open to many pregnant women/teens, breastfeeding women/teens, infants and children up to age five. Enrolled clients attend brief nutrition education classes and are issued food vouchers redeemable at WIC approved grocery stores. Services are available in Doniphan and Naylor. Eligibility is based on income and medical guidelines.


Immunizations:

Routine childhood immunizations are available during regularly scheduled immunization clinics. Adult immunizations are also available.


Day Care Consultants:

The Health Department offers consultant services to child care providers. Services include assessment, health and safety educational services.


Family Planning Clinics:

Clinics are held several times a month for clients who are currently or wish to begin using birth control. Enrollment is based on individual eligibility requirements including financial guidelines. Pregnancy tests are also available. Registered Nurse Practitioner, Judy Knowlton, is the agency's full time clinician.


Prenatal Case Management:

The Prenatal case management program is for high-risk pregnancies. Two full time Registered Nurses serve as case managers. Eligibility is based on risk factors of the pregnancy.


Communicable Disease:

Diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, measles, meningitis, salmonella, and numerous others are reported to our health department. Follow-up on contacts (family & friends) of these clients is provided.


Tuberculosis Program:

Tuberculosis skin tests are available for people who have symptoms or have been exposed to a known case of tuberculosis. Follow-up is done on active cases and TB medications can be obtained from the Health Department (provided by the Missouri Dept. of Health) free of charge.


Breast & Cervical Program:

Pap Smears, pelvic, breast exam, and mammograms are available to qualified clients. Call for a screening.


Pediculosis (Head Lice) Program:

"Rid" shampoo is available free (donated by local businesses and sponsors) for children and adults. The staff counsels with clients on proper techniques.


Pregnancy Testing & Counseling:

These services are available every day as needed. Call for a confidential appointment.


Cholesterol Screening:

The health department does cholesterol screening on the second Monday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nominal Fee.


Diabetic Services-Screenings & Education:

Blood Sugar Screenings are available the second Monday of each month. Follow-up is done with the client and referrals are made.


Sexually Transmitted Disease & HIV/AIDS Screening:

Confidential screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are offered at the health department. Treatement and education programs are available. HIV screening along with pre & post-test counseling are also available. Private appointments may be made for the client. Free of charge.


Flu Injections:

Flu injections are provided to all residents. Nurses are available for special flu clinics at businesses, schools, etc. Flu injections are available October through December.


Vital Records:

All births and deaths that occur in Ripley County are recorded at the Health Department. Certified copies of birth certificates for a person born in the state of Missouri after 1920 or a death in the state after 1980 can be obtained at the Health Department. A fee is required of $10.00 for these certificates. Information is available on how to obtain certified copies of birth or death for any location in the U.S.


Environmental Public Health:

The Health Department is responsible for enforcement of standards in eating and drinking establishments, grocery stores, schools, nutrition sites, and lodging establishments. Consultation services are available on private drinking water supplies, and private on-site septic systems. All inspection reports are available to the public on our web page.

 
 
 
 
Health Education:

Current information about general related issues is available through our staff health educator, public health nurses, and other staff members. Speakers are available on various subjects free of charge.


Postponing Sexual Involvement and Baby Think It Over Program:

The Postponing Sexual Involvement program is an abstinent based program for pre-teens and young teens. Taught in the school district.

The Baby Think It Over dolls are available for schools to use with their students.



Blood Pressure Screenings:

Blood pressure screenings are done at the health department. Free of charge. These services are available every Monday.


Vision & Hearing Screenings for Children:

The Registered Nurses screen children for vision and hearing as needed. Referrals are made. Call for an appointment.
